“Disadvantage Of Social Media Tinder Social Media”

On March 17, 2017, WikiLeaks tweeted that it had never communicated with Roger Stone, a longtime confidante and informal adviser to President Donald Trump. In his interview with the House Intelligence Committee last September, Stone, who testified under oath, told lawmakers that he had communicated with WikiLeaks via an “intermediary,” whom he identified only as a “journalist.” He declined to reveal that person’s identity to the committee, he told reporters later.

9. Snapchat. This surprisingly-addictive app gives you the ability to take a picture, add art and text if you’d like, and then send it to recipients for a set amount of time (after which the photo will delete itself and be removed from the company’s servers). Lots of fun, and potentially a good way to stay in touch with friends.

3. LinkedIn. One of the only mainstream social media sites that’s actually geared towards business, LinkedIn is to cyberspace what networking groups once were to local business communities. It’s great for meeting customers, getting in touch with vendors, recruiting new employees, and keeping up with the latest in business or industry news. If it matters to your company or career, you can probably do it on LinkedIn.

In term of trading, social media is a significant factor that helps companies build a strong brand and make a lasting impression on target customers. Similarity, establishing branding online can also help to remain an active online presence for any businesses. For instance, Magnum has launched its new campaign ‘Release the Beast’ and ‘Dare to go double’, the campaigns encourage Magnum fans to challenge themselves by releasing their wild side (Mortimer, N., 2016).[141] The company has taken advantages of social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube to reach more prospective users (Levine et al.,2000).[142] The campaign achieved its marketing objective by 80 per cent of users interested in the new campaign in 2016 (Mintel academic).[143] Therefore, the use of social media helps to gain the traffic and subscribers to the websites (Blackshaw and Nazzaro 2004).[144]  Social media sites have also been criticized for failing to do more to prevent terrorist organisations using it as a way to radicalize vulnerable people.[145]

Large-scale networks: Large-scale network is a term somewhat with “macro-level” as used, primarily, in social and behavioral sciences, in economics. Originally, the term was used extensively in the computer sciences (see large-scale network mapping).

Facebook’s next overhaul of its mobile app might be the one that clinches its transformation from a social network into, well, a news feed. Mashable reported recently, and the company confirmed to me, that it is testing a new mobile interface that would offer users the option to sort their feeds by topic. One test of the concept appears to divide the news feed into

Thank You for sharing such detailed information with your readers. The strategies are really useful and if followed religiously I am sure it would lead to fruitful results. The part where you mentioned different time frames of posting at different social media sites is great. I never knew this can actually work in one’s favor. Thanks once again.

Social media itself is a catch-all term for sites that may provide radically different social actions. For instance, Twitter is a social site designed to let people share short messages or “updates” with others. Facebook, in contrast is a full-blown social networking site that allows for sharing updates, photos, joining events and a variety of other activities.

On a fall night in 2003, Harvard undergrad and computer programming genius Mark Zuckerberg sits down at his computer and heatedly begins working on a new idea. In a fury of blogging and programming, what begins in his dorm room soon becomes a global social network and a revolution in communication. A mere six years and 500 million friends later, Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest billionaire in history… but for this entrepreneur, success leads to both personal and legal complications. Some reviewers pointed out that the film plays loosely, however, with the facts behind Facebook’s founding. Joe Morgenstern in The Wall Street Journal praised the film as exhilarating but noted: “The biographical part takes liberties with its subject. Aaron Sorkin based his screenplay on a contentious book, Ben Mezrich’s The Accidental Billionaires, so everything that’s seen isn’t necessarily to be believed.”[66]

The 2008 US presidential campaign had a huge presence on social networking sites. Barack Obama, a virtually unknown Democratic candidate, utilized 15 different social media websites to form relationships with the millions of American citizens who utilize those networks. His social networking profile pages were constantly being updated and interacting with followers. By the end of his campaign, Obama had 5 million social media network supporters (2.5 million on Facebook and 115,000 on Twitter). The use of social networking sites in his marketing campaign gave Barack Obama’s campaign access to e-mail addresses, as posted on social network profile pages. This allowed the Democratic Party to launch e-mail campaigns asking for votes and campaign donations.[26]

Instagram was launched as a unique social networking platform that was completely based on sharing photos and videos. This photo sharing social networking app thus enables you to capture the best moments of your life, with your phone’s camera or any other camera, and convert them into works of art.

A digital marketing professional, or specialist, is often responsible for developing the strategy used in marketing a company’s product online, utilizing such techniques in the field as social media, Web analytics, e-mail marketing and search engine optimization, among others. They may put together various online promotions and e-mailing campaigns to get their company’s message out, as well as perform consumer research to discover other ways of reaching customers via the Internet. Other possible job titles for professionals in the field of digital marketing include digital sales executive, SEO marketer and online marketing manager, to name a few. December job listings on CareerBuilder.com, for example, list direct response letters, dedicated e-mail sales and interactive advertising among some of the responsibilities of a digital sales executive.

The earliest online social networks appeared almost as soon as the technology could support them. E-mail and chat programs debuted in the early 1970s, but persistent communities did not surface until the creation of USENET in 1979. USENET began as a messaging system between Duke University and the University of North Carolina, but it rapidly expanded to other American universities and government agencies. USENET allowed users to post and receive messages within subject areas called newsgroups. Initially, there was no standard convention for the naming of newsgroups. This led to confusion as the number of newsgroups grew throughout the 1980s. In 1987 several USENET developers implemented a change that normalized groups into broad hierarchies such as news, talk, miscellaneous, and alternative (the last was created for newsgroups that dealt with taboo or niche topics, and it remains the most populous category on USENET). USENET and other discussion forums, such as privately hosted bulletin board systems (BBSs), enabled individuals to interact in an online social network, but each was essentially a closed system. With the release in 1993 of the Mosaic Web browser (see Netscape Communications Corp.), those systems were joined with an easy-to-use graphical interface. The architecture of the World Wide Web made it possible to navigate from one site to another with a click, and faster Internet connections allowed for more multimedia content than could be found in the text-heavy newsgroups.

Shifting the focus to the time span, we may need to measure some “Interim Metrics”, which give us some insight during the journey itself, as well as we need to measure some “Final Metrics” at the end of the journey to inform use if the overall initiative was successful or not. As an example, most of social media metrics and indicators such as likes, shares and engagement comments may be classified as interim metrics while the final increase/decrease in sales volume is clearly from the final category.

While it’s no Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn, Google+ has its place among the popular social media sites. Its SEO value alone makes it a must-use tool for any small business. Launched on December 15, 2011, Google+ has joined the big leagues registering 418 active million users as of December 2015.

The app makes it simple to post new content, share content from others,  and reply with comments. It supports all the social features that come with an account. You can vote, save, report and pin content to your desktop as a live tile. With infinite scrolling and in-line images and video and audio support, ReddHub is often described as one of the most feature-rich apps available for Windows 8.

When is your brand available to engage and interact with customers? You might see some recommending times to post late in the evening. But if your brand isn’t there to communicate, what’s the point of posting at the preferred time?

3. Target Boosted Posts — in the past, you could simply boost a post to fans and their friends. Now you can target Boosted Posts based on gender, age, interest, location and connection (fans and their friends).

Customer relationship management (CRM) is an approach to managing a company’s interaction with current and potential future customers that tries to analyze data about customers’ history with a company and to improve business relationships with customers, specifically focusing on customer retention and ultimately driving sales growth. One important aspect of the CRM approach is the systems of CRM that compile data from a range of different communication channels, including a company’s website, telephone, email, live chat, marketing materials, and social media. Through the CRM approach and the systems used to facilitate CRM, businesses learn more about their target audiences and how to best cater to their needs. However, adopting the CRM approach may also occasionally lead to favoritism within an audience of consumers, resulting in dissatisfaction among customers and defeating the purpose of CRM.

According to writer Christine Rosen in “Virtual and the New Narcissism,” many social media sites encourage status-seeking.[168] According to Rosen, the practice and definition of “friendship” changes in virtuality. Friendship “in these virtual spaces is thoroughly different from real-world friendship. In its traditional sense, friendship is a relationship which, broadly speaking, involves the sharing of mutual interests, reciprocity, trust, and the revelation of intimate details over time and within specific social (and cultural) contexts. Because friendship depends on mutual revelations that are concealed from the rest of the world, it can only flourish within the boundaries of privacy; the idea of public friendship is an oxymoron.” Rosen also cites Brigham Young University researchers who “recently surveyed 184 users of social networking sites and found that heavy users ‘feel less socially involved with the community around them.'” Critic Nicholas G. Carr in “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” questions how technology affects cognition and memory.[169] “The kind of deep reading that a sequence of printed pages promotes is valuable not just for the knowledge we acquire from the author’s words but for the intellectual vibrations those words set off within our own minds. In the quiet spaces opened up by the sustained, undistracted reading of a book, or by any other act of contemplation, for that matter, we make our own associations, draw our own inferences and analogies, foster our own ideas… If we lose those quiet spaces, or fill them up with “content,” we will sacrifice something important not only in our selves but in our culture.”

According to a recent article by Malak Rafla, Nicholas J. Carson and Sandra M. DeJong, it has been brought to the medical professional’s attention that excessive use of technology by teenagers has caused disruptions in their physical and mental health, in sleeping patterns, their weight and levels of exercise and notably in their school work. The authors continue to say that in previous studies long hours spent on mobile devices have shown a positive relationship with an increase in teenagers BMI and a lack of physical activity. Moreover, heavy Internet users seemingly receive lower grades than users who don’t spend an excessive amount of time online, even with a control over age, gender, race, parent education and personal contentment factors that may affect the study.[171] Many teenagers suffer from sleep deprivation as they spend long hours at night on their phones, and this in turn will affect grades as they will be tired and unfocused in school. Social media has generated a phenomenon known as ” Facebook depression”, which is a type of depression that effects adolescents who spend too much of their free time engaging with social media sites. “Facebook depression” leads to problems such as reclusiveness which can negatively damage ones health by creating feelings of loneliness and low self-esteem among young people.[172] At the same time, a recent study entitled “Problematic Social Media Use: Results from a large-scale Nationally Representative Adolescent Sample” (Bányai et al., 2017) has shown that there is a link between social media addiction and negative mental health effects. In this study which took place in Hungary, 5,961 adolescent students were examined using the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale. 4.5% of these students were found to be “at risk” of social media addiction. Furthermore, this same 4.5%, when examined using the “Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale” and the “Centre of Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale” reported low self-esteem and high levels of depressive symptoms. This study concludes that these scales referred to above should be used in the future in the prevention and intervention of social media addiction in schools.[173]

First of all, thanks for sharing this list. It’s really useful, but it would be great to supplement it with some kind of statistics regarding the audience who is using each of these social networks. This statistics could be valuable for different kind of marketers, bloggers or business owners because with such statistics it would be possible to plan a strategy for business in different niches, like e-commerce, paperhelp online, any kind of services, or use it for the purpose of self-promotions for bloggers/website owners.

One successful digital media campaign was by Pizza Hut, which created an app that allowed customers to create their own pizza by dragging their chosen toppings onto a graphical pizza base. The iPhone would then determine which of the chain’s thousands of locations the customer happened to be nearest. The company advertised the new app online, in print, and on television – even winning a placement in Apple’s own iPhone commercial.

Knowledge management could take place in traditional small businesses (such as coffeehouses and ice cream parlours) just by using the owner-proprietor’s own memory of his key customers, their preferences, and their client-service expectations. However, with the shift to national or even multinational e-commerce businesses which operate online, companies are generating far more data on transactions for a single person or even a team to grasp just in their memory. As such, 2010-era global e-commerce firms typically use a range of digital tools to track, monitor and analyze the huge streams of data their businesses are generating, a process called “data mining”.

Blogging website Tumblr first launched ad products on May 29, 2012.[77] Rather than relying on simple banner ads, Tumblr requires advertisers to create a Tumblr blog so the content of those blogs can be featured on the site.[78] In one year, four native ad formats were created on web and mobile, and had more than 100 brands advertising on Tumblr with 500 cumulative sponsored posts.

Social media users in the US check their accounts 17 times a day, according to an Informate Mobile Intelligence report. While a customer may visit your store once a week, they could see your social media posts in their feed multiple times during the week.

12. Twoo. This Belgian social network site is geared for the 25 and under crowd all over the world. Alongside normal social features like posts, updates, and photo sharing, it also boasts online games and chat features that make it popular with younger users who want to stay entertained while connecting with each other.

If you’ve seen an article online marked as ‘sponsored’, you’ve seen a native ad. Businesses must pay to have their content published, but the article isn’t advertorial in nature — it’s educational and fits the style of the website or publication it’s featured in. Native advertising can also refer to boosted social media posts on platforms like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram, as well as PPC, which is ‘native’ to Google’s search results.

However, according to Sorkin, Mezrich did not send him material from his book as he wrote it: “Two or three times we’d get together. I’d go to Boston, or we’d meet in New York and kind of compare notes and share information, but I didn’t see the book until he was done with it. By the time I saw the book, I was probably 80 percent done with the screenplay.”[8] Sorkin elaborated:

I just saw this list and I thought I’d add what we do. We use Verizon as our carrier and they allow you to put time restrictions on the phone. My son switched to using a texting app on his IPod. We explained that going around us wasn’t okay and we put parental controls on his IPod. We actually took seriously the need to keep the internet out in the open – our 2 computers are in a public space. So, we felt strongly that having the internet on a phone or on an IPod was counterproductive. So, we only let him have games and music on the IPod. He still finds work arounds, but at least he knows where we stand. Porn is a huge concern, but so is respecting our guidelines as far as no texting in school, or after 10pm on a school night (we feel like the only ones….) Best of luck – it’s a battle but one that’s worth winning.

This is a film which simply shouldn’t work, but it does – magnificently. A story centred on a teenager who becomes the world’s youngest billionaire, a web site that reaches a million users in two years, and a cast of real life characters with names like Zuckerberg and Winklevoss just shouldn’t be possible. A convoluted tale of raw conflict on the origins of a new type of web site should not lend itself to an expensive movie as opposed to a television documentary. It succeeds because it is not about the technology but about creativity and conflict and about friendship and betrayal. It succeeds because of a magical combination of accomplished direction, scintillating dialogue and superb acting.

But if we use the term to describe a site like Facebook, and also a site like Digg, plus a site like Wikipedia, and even a site like I Can Has Cheezburger, then it starts to get more confusing. Just what is social media anyway?

Since its release, The Social Network has been cited as inspiring involvement in start-ups and social media.[78] Bob Lefsetz has stated that: “watching this movie makes you want to run from the theatre, grab your laptop and build your own empire,”[79] noting that The Social Network has helped fuel an emerging perception that “techies have become the new rock stars.”[80] This has led Dave Knox to comment that: “fifteen years from now we might just look back and realize this movie inspired our next great generation of entrepreneurs.”[79] After seeing the movie, Zuckerberg was quoted as saying he is “interested to see what effect The Social Network has on entrepreneurship”, noting that he gets “lots of messages from people who claim that they have been very much inspired… to start their own company.”[81] Saverin echoed these sentiments, stating that the film may inspire “countless others to create and take that leap to start a new business.”[82] In one such instance, the co-founders of Wall Street Magnate confirmed that they were inspired to create the fantasy trading community after watching The Social Network.[83]

Word of mouth communications and peer-to-peer dialogue often have a greater effect on customers, since they are not sent directly from the company and are therefore not planned. Customers are more likely to trust other customers’ experiences.[18] Examples can be that social media users share food products and meal experiences highlighting certain brands and franchises. This was noted in a study on Instagram, where researchers observed that adolescent Instagram users’ posted images of food-related experiences within their social networks, providing free advertising for the products.[22]

Excellent movie with a really fascinating documentary on the making of the film. Seriously, the doc is so good it would be worth the price of the movie alone as it goes behind the scenes into the shooting of the film in a very intimate way. My only gripe is that the packaging is strange. The front sleeve is U shaped and just falls from the packaging rather then the the blu ray sleeve sliding in. It’s really bizarre and unfortunate and I’ll have to fix it by taping it together.

My child was lured by a complete stranger on Instagram. I am NOT a lax parent, in fact, very far from it, but you CAN NOT compete with a predator. They are professionals. They can be anyone they want on a profile, and kids generally believe this stuff. Kids want more “likes” and followers. These predators can know where your kids go to school, anything they want just by keeping up with your kids posts! Please BE NOSEY! Don’t make the mistake I made, and then have to deal with what we are dealing with. This is literally every parents nightmare. It’s a hard toss-up because you want your kids to be able to contact you, but at what cost? Their lives? I know mine is LITERALLY lucky to be alive. Predators manipulate, lie, groom, tell your kids what they want to hear. If you live in a small area like we do, it wouldn’t be hard just from following posts to find out where you live, where kids go to school. You think this could never happen to you, BUT IT CAN HAPPEN, and does happen WAY MORE THAN YOU THINK! I think I read it’s a 100% chance kids will be contacted by a predator online these days no matter how strict you are (I was very strict and always wanted to be in the know about what our kid was doing, with whom, and where) but it still wasn’t enough. Now my child is a victim, we get to go through a lengthy court battle b/c I had this person arrested, and I also have to carry the guilt of providing them with a cell phone. It’s not just the kids that have no supervision, trust me, PLEASE, if a predator wants to get at your kid, they will. This is why they are called predators because they PREY on kids. I hope that someone reads this and at least considers what I am telling you, because if one kid doesn’t have to go through what we are going through, it was worth making this comment!

The final, big reason why young people are gravitating towards messaging apps is that many of these apps no longer do just messaging. They are social networks. The best examples come out of Asia, with messaging platforms KakaoTalk (South Korea), WeChat (China) and LINE (Japan). All have tens of millions of users, with WeChat boasting more than 200 million, and take their services beyond offering straight messaging to games, stickers and music sharing. Before you write off digital stickers as inane, they are a decent moneyspinner for LINE: of the $58m the company made in sales in the first quarter of 2013, half came from selling games and 30%, or roughly $17m, from sales of its 8,000 different stickers. Some are free or, in Spain where LINE has 15 million registered users, cost around €1.99. Often users choose stickers instead of words when they need to express themselves, one LINE executive said; it’s known to have helped couples get over fights more easily by offering multiple stickers to say sorry.

He had just delivered a speech in SoHo at the 99U Pop-Up School and was on his way to lecture a room full of social data specialists at the Mandarin Oriental hotel.

The social network is a theoretical construct useful in the social sciences to study relationships between individuals, groups, organizations, or even entire societies (social units, see differentiation). The term is used to describe a social structure determined by such interactions. The ties through which any given social unit connects represent the convergence of the various social contacts of that unit. This theoretical approach is, necessarily, relational. An axiom of the social network approach to understanding social interaction is that social phenomena should be primarily conceived and investigated through the properties of relations between and within units, instead of the properties of these units themselves. Thus, one common criticism of social network theory is that individual agency is often ignored[6] although this may not be the case in practice (see agent-based modeling). Precisely because many different types of relations, singular or in combination, form these network configurations, network analytics are useful to a broad range of research enterprises. In social science, these fields of study include, but are not limited to anthropology, biology, communication studies, economics, geography, information science, organizational studies, social psychology, sociology, and sociolinguistics.

Kik Messenger is an app that lets kids text for free. It’s fast and has no message limits, character limits, or fees if you only use the basic features. Because it’s an app, the texts won’t show up on your kid’s phone’s messaging service, and you’re not charged for them (beyond standard data rates).

VaynerMedia created a campaign called “Momisms,” a series of Facebook ads aimed at mothers, the key Nilla audience. Many ads had the brand’s yellow background, and in red lettering offered cute homiletic quips like, “The best families are like fudge, mostly sweet with lots of nuts!” Vayner would try five different ads at the same time, aiming at a small group of Facebook users. Once it learned which ads were most “liked” and “shared,” Vayner spent more to push those ads to bigger audiences.

If you’re starting from square one, it might feel equal parts thrilling and overwhelming. You know what you want to do and why. You can see that others have climbed the social media mountain; you’ve got few ideas how to get there yourself.

Twitter, with its 328 million users, has recently changed its most famous and infamous feature, the 140-character limit. By doubling the limit to 280 characters, it offers more room to express your thoughts and ideas. But keep in mind that brevity, along with strategic use of photos and videos, will continue to help you stand out; there’s no need to use all 280 characters in every post.

The picture here is a bit different if we look at the brand names. WhatsApp and Messenger are in a close race for the top spot. But both of theses most popular social media apps are owned by Facebook so the competition may not be as fierce as between completely separate companies. Then there’s a lot of Asian apps and then on the sixth spot is Instagram, again owned by Facebook.

Another reason WhatsApp spread quickly around the world is that it populates your friends list with phone numbers already on your phone — you can find a contact that works without having to look up a separate email address or username.

But it seems that those earlier efforts were ahead of their time —or maybe they were simply doing it wrong. Today, ResearchGate is just one of several academic social networks going viral. San Francisco-based competitor Academia.edu says that it has 11 million users. “The goal of the company is to rebuild science publishing from the ground up,” declares chief executive Richard Price, who studied philosophy at the University of Oxford, UK, before he founded Academia.edu in 2008, and has already raised $17.7 million from venture capitalists. A third site, London-based Mendeley, claims 3.1 million members. It was originally launched as software for managing and storing documents, but it encourages private and public social networking. The firm was snapped up in 2013 by Amsterdam-based publishing giant Elsevier for a reported £45 million (US$76 million).

Digital marketing is the use of the internet, mobile devices, social media, search engines, display advertising and other channels to reach consumers. As a subset of traditional marketing, digital marketing goes beyond the internet to include Short Message Service (SMS), Simple Notification Service (SNS), search engine optimization (SEO), electronic or interactive billboards and other online ads (such banner ads) to promote products and services. Some marketing experts consider digital marketing to be an entirely new endeavor that requires a new way of approaching customers and new ways of understanding how customers behave compared to traditional marketing.

5. Renren. Literally translating into “everyone’s website,” Renren is China’s largest social platform. Hugely popular with the younger crowd, it works in a way similar to Facebook, allowing users to share quick thoughts, update their moods, connect with others, and add posts or ideas to a blog-like stream.

After doing this effectively, it is important to review the marketing mix for online options. The marketing mix comprises the 4Ps – Product, Price, Promotion and Place.[61][62] Some academics have added three additional elements to the traditional 4Ps of marketing Process, Place and Physical appearance making it 7Ps of marketing.[63]

Reporter Paul Ronzheimer recently used Periscope to document his journey with a group of Syrian refugees from Greece to Germany. ‘In Germany we have been having a big discussion about the intensity of media coverage of this story. But on Periscope, everybody could see it was live,’ he told The Guardian. ‘It happened. No one was cutting it, no one was putting a two- or three-minute piece together after we filmed it. And for Germans, it was really good to understand the problems the refugees have been facing.’

Your digital marketing strategy might incorporate elements of all three channels, all working together to help you reach your goal. For example, you might have an owned piece of content on a landing page on your website that’s been created to help you generate leads. To amplify the number of leads that content generates, you might have made a real effort to make it shareable, meaning others are distributing it via their personal social media profiles, increasing traffic to the landing page. That’s the earned media component. To support the content’s success, you might have posted about the content to your Facebook page and have paid to have it seen by more people in your target audience.

Digital outbound tactics aim to put a marketing message directly in front of as many people as possible in the online space — regardless of whether it’s relevant or welcomed. For example, the garish banner ads you see at the top of many websites try to push a product or promotion onto people who aren’t necessarily ready to receive it.

Social networking is the practice of expanding the number of one’s business and/or social contacts by making connections through individuals, often through social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+.

I completely agree with you, Cyber Safety Lady. I think the Common Sense Media review of Kik needs to be updated. The sub-apps of Kik (available via a side swipe) offer their own versions of YouTube, Internet Browser, Image searching and more. There are parents out there that may think that turning off Safari will prohibit their child from accessing YouTube or other inappropriate content; however, Kik is a backdoor for your children to access these very sites. The problem with the CSM review of Kik is that it falls into the trap of categorizing the app as a “texting” app, but it is much, much more! Please re-evaluate the product and see if you agree that your review needs to be updated. Thank you Cyber Safety Lady! (I think I originally learned of the holes in Kik from you!)

That brings in another question: How can B2B marketers ensure that their videos are a hit with viewers? Just creating video content is not enough. Focusing on creating video content that resonates with audiences is more important. Here’s your answer to the question, Should your B2B have its own YouTube Channel?

A woman overseeing the account — the “community manager,” as the job is known in this business — said she had been sending direct replies to anyone on Twitter who mentioned the cookie, saying hello, and perhaps sending some product samples, as a representative of the brand.

Thanks for this article. There are some of them i’ve not heard about since i started using the internet. I think I was only limited to facebook and Whatsapp. Now i can meet new people on some of these social network. Thanks once again.

WhatsApp says it is already profitable thanks to its annual subscription fees; Pinger relies on advertisements; WeChat, LINE, Kakao and Kik sell stickers and games. Some of these services are bound to go out of fashion, and a few business models will fail, and they’re still a world away from the $2.1bn in sales that Facebook brought in this last quarter.

Snapchat began as just an app for sharing self-destructing photos and videos to your friends, but it’s quickly evolved into the No. 1 app for visual communication. With its new Stories feature, you can now weave together photos and videos into a visual status of sorts, and you can also send texts from directly within the app.

In early 2012, Nike introduced its Make It Count social media campaign. The campaign kickoff began YouTubers Casey Neistat and Max Joseph launching a YouTube video, where they 34,000 miles to visit 16 cities in 13 countries. They promoted the #makeitcount hashtag, which millions of consumers shared via Twitter and Instagram by uploading photos and sending tweets.[33] The #MakeItCount YouTube video went viral and Nike saw an 18% increase in profit in 2012, the year this product was released.

I reach out to people a lot, so this app is my go-to app to reach people. It is one of the simplest ways where I know 90% of people will see their message. When I message people on LinkedIn, they may or may not check. Twitter, I mostly ignore the messages I receive because it is typically a bunch of spam. Google+, you just don’t know if they will check. The list goes on. With the Facebook Messenger app, I know more than likely my message will be seen.

People[who?] are increasingly getting political news and information from social media platforms. A 2014 study showed that 62% of web users turn to Facebook to find political news.[200] This social phenomenon allows for political information, true or not, to spread quickly and easily among peer networks. Furthermore, social media sites are now encouraging political involvement by uniting like-minded people, reminding users to vote in elections, and analyzing users’ political affiliation data to find cultural similarities and differences.[201] Social media can help taint the reputation of political figures fairly quickly with information that may or may not be true. Information spreads like wildfire and before a politician can even get an opportunity to address the information, either to confirm, deny, or explain, the public has already formed an opinion about the politician based on that information. However, when conducted on purpose, the spread of information on social media for political means can help campaigns immensely. The Barack Obama presidential campaign, 2008, is considered to be one of the most successful in terms of social media. On the other hand, negative word-of-mouth in social media concerning a political figure can be very unfortunate for a politician and can cost the politician his/her career if the information is very damaging.[202] For example, Anthony Weiner’s use of the social media platform Twitter to send inappropriate messages eventually led to his resignation from U.S. Congress.[203]

Hi there! Thanks so much for the comment! I’m hopeful that these tips should be pretty relevant for your radio program. A good first step might be trying to find where your audience resides – are they into Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Instagram, etc.? One way that I’ve heard works well is to place some of these social network icons on your website and see how the networks grow – if that might work for you at all!

Several customers are turning towards social media to express their appreciation or frustration with brands, product or services. Therefore, marketers can measure the frequency of which customers are discussing their brand and judge how effective their SMM strategies are. Expanding your social network beyond your familiar circle of friends can have surprising benefits. It’s those weak ties that bring fresh ideas and unexpected opportunities: a job, an apartment, a mate. The Internet is providing new tools for cultivating and capitalizing on those networks; someone you’ve never met in person could change your life.

Other channels that seem to fall into digital marketing so far are telecommunications (cell/mobile phones and voice broadcasting) and digital billboards. It sounds like what you see happening in the future with these is the Internet replacing telecommunications and even computer network infrastructures so that all these channels, as you wrote, are fed by the Internet.

I love your and the way your write it. I have a question since i am new in social media, how about the targeting and the positioning step ? since it is a next step after you develop segmentation for your audience…

If anything, social media is probably about to move more toward ephemeral sharing for quicker, more intimate sharing without the stress of having to blast something out to hundreds or thousands of followers that stays up there unless it’s manually deleted. Instagram has already made the move toward ephemeral content sharing with its Snapchat-like stories feature, so maybe more platforms will be soon to follow.

But if we use the term to describe a site like Facebook, and also a site like Digg, plus a site like Wikipedia, and even a site like I Can Has Cheezburger, then it starts to get more confusing. Just what is social media anyway?

Few would argue with these goals, but many wonder why researchers would deposit their data sets and reviews on these new social networks, rather than elsewhere online — on their own websites, for example, in university repositories, or on dedicated data-storage sites such as Dryad or figshare (see Nature 500, 243–245; 2013 — figshare is funded by Nature’s parent company, Macmillan Publishers). To Madisch, the answer lies with the social sites’ burgeoning communities of users — the famed ‘network’ effect. “If you post on ResearchGate, you are reaching the people who matter,” he says. But Titus Brown, a computational scientist at Michigan State University in East Lansing, is concerned about the sites’ business plans as they seek to survive. “What worries me is that at some point ResearchGate will use their information to make a profit in ways that we are uncomfortable with — or they will be bought by someone who will do that,” he says.

So where did all the faces go? What insurgent social media platforms have arisen to topple the Facebook behemoth? Not Twitter, which feels even less safe and private than Facebook and accordingly pivoted away from socializing years ago. (Twitter is now pretty clearly a media company, to the point that it recently signed a deal to simulcast NFL games.) No, the new hubs of online socializing are, primarily, photo- and video-sharing and messaging apps, which focus explicitly on creating more intimate contexts for personal interaction. The two most prominent photo- and video-sharing platforms in the United States are Instagram and Snapchat. The two most prominent messaging apps (not counting Apple’s iMessage, which isn’t really an app) are WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.

There are many neat tools to show you the best time of day to post to Facebook, Twitter, and more. These tools look at your followers and your history of posts to see when your audience is online and when historically have been your best times to share.

It arrived on the scene much later than Facebook, but has been able to capture the imagination of millions of people across the world by giving them the ability to communicate and share instantly with individuals and groups. The WhatsApp call feature is just the icing on the cake!

There are several negative effects to social media which receive criticism, for example regarding privacy issues,[150] information overload[151] and Internet fraud. Social media can also have negative social effects on users. Angry or emotional conversations can lead to real-world interactions outside of the Internet, which can get users into dangerous situations. Some users have experienced threats of violence online and have feared these threats manifesting themselves offline. Studies also show that social media have negative effects on peoples’ self-esteem and self-worth. The authors of “Who Compares and Despairs? The Effect of Social Comparison Orientation on Social Media Use and its Outcomes”[152] found that people with a higher social comparison orientation appear to use social media more heavily than people with low social comparison orientation. This finding was consistent with other studies that found people with high social comparison orientation make more social comparisons once on social media. People compare their own lives to the lives of their friends through their friends’ posts. People are motivated to portray themselves in a way that is appropriate to the situation and serves their best interest. Often the things posted online are the positive aspects of people’s lives, making other people question why their own lives are not as exciting or fulfilling. This can lead to depression and other self-esteem issues as well as decrease their satisfaction of life as they feel if their life is not exciting enough to put online it is not as good as their friends or family.[153] Studies have shown that self comparison on social media can have dire effects on physical and mental health because they give us the ability to seek approval and compare ourselves.[154] Social media has both a practical usage- to connect us with others, but also can lead to fulfillment of gratification.[155] In fact, one study suggests that because a critical aspect of social networking sites involve spending hours, if not months customizing a personal profile, and encourage a sort of social currency based on likes, followers and comments- they provide a forum for persistent “appearance conversations”.[156] These appearance centered conversations that forums like Facebook, Instagram among others provide can lead to feelings of disappointment in looks and personality when not enough likes or comments are achieved. In addition, social media use can lead to detrimental physical health effects. A large body of literature associates body image and disordered eating with social networking platforms. Specifically, literature suggests that social media can breed a negative feedback loop of viewing and uploading photos, self comparison, feelings of disappointment when perceived social success is not achieved, and disordered body perception.[157] In fact, one study shows that the microblogging platform, Pintrest is directly associated with disordered dieting behavior, indicating that for those who frequently look at exercise or dieting “pins” there is a greater chance that they will engage in extreme weight-loss and dieting behavior.[158]

Connecting the dots between marketing and sales is hugely important — according to Aberdeen Group, companies with strong sales and marketing alignment achieve a 20% annual growth rate, compared to a 4% decline in revenue for companies with poor alignment. If you can improve your customer’s’ journey through the buying cycle by using digital technologies, then it’s likely to reflect positively on your business’s bottom line.

“Webster’s dictionary defines digital as… nope, not going to do that. For me digital marketing is any way that we, as marketers, use digital media to influence users. Whether that’s the free stuff – search, social, etc. – or the paid stuff – PPC, display advertising, social ads, in game advertising, etc. across all available technologies and platforms. The real trick to effective digital marketing is using the right platform / technology / tactic to reach the audience that will buy your product / read your articles / engage with your content.”

Users can set up a brief profile that mainly highlights their photo, and then anyone who’s matched up to them can anonymously swipe right to like their profile or left to pass on it as a match. The IBM PC takes us to 1981, with a host of both Mac and PCs being used throughout the 1980s. Multiple modems, followed by specialized telco hardware allowed multiple to many users online simultaneously. Compuserve and AOL were two of the largest BBS companies, and were the first to migrate to the Internet in the 1990s. Between the middle 1980s to the middle 1990s, BBSes numbered in the tens of thousands in North America alone.[15] Message forums (a specific structure of social media) arose with the BBS phenomenon throughout the 1980s and early 1990s. When the Internet arrived in the mid-1990s, message forums migrated online, becoming Internet forums, primarily due to cheaper per-person access as well as the ability to handle far more people simultaneously than telco modem banks.

Bo Han, a social media researcher at Texas A&M University-Commerce, finds that users are likely to experience the “social media burnout” issue.[170] Ambivalence, emotional exhaustion, and depersonalization are usually the main symptoms if a user experiences social media burnout. Ambivalence refers to a user’s confusion about the benefits she can get from using a social media site. Emotional exhaustion refers to the stress a user has when using a social media site. Depersonalization refers to the emotional detachment from a social media site a user experiences. The three burnout factors can all negatively influence the user’s social media continuance. This study provides an instrument to measure the burnout a user can experience, when her social media “friends” are generating an overwhelming amount of useless information (e.g., “what I had for dinner”, “where I am now”).

Owned by the tech giant Alphabet (Google), this interest-based social networking platform enables you to stay in touch with people by sharing messages, photos, videos, useful links to sites and so on. It also extends support for video conferencing through Hangouts and allows businesses to promote their brands and products through Google+ business pages.

One of the main purposes of employing social media in marketing is as a communications tool that makes the companies accessible to those interested in their product and makes them visible to those who have no knowledge of their products.[35] These companies use social media to create buzz, and learn from and target customers. It’s the only form of marketing that can finger consumers at each and every stage of the consumer decision journey.[36] Marketing through social media has other benefits as well. Of the top 10 factors that correlate with a strong Google organic search, seven are social media dependent. This means that if brands are less or non-active on social media, they tend to show up less on Google searches.[37] While platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Google+ have a larger number of monthly users, the visual media sharing based mobile platforms, however, garner a higher interaction rate in comparison and have registered the fastest growth and have changed the ways in which consumers engage with brand content. Instagram has an interaction rate of 1.46% with an average of 130 million users monthly as opposed to Twitter which has a .03% interaction rate with an average of 210 million monthly users.[37] Unlike traditional media that are often cost-prohibitive to many companies, a social media strategy does not require astronomical budgeting.[38]

Digital marketing engagements are typically multifaceted, solving for specific digital marketing challenges while building ongoing client capabilities. In addition to defining new roles and responsibilities and helping develop employees’ skills, we address technology infrastructure issues and identify potential partners. We work with clients primarily in three core areas:

Make a list of your existing owned content, and rank each item according to what has previously performed best in relation to your current goals. If your goal is lead generation, for example, rank them according to which generated the most leads in the last year. That might be a particular blog post, an ebook, or even a specific page on your website that’s converting well.

Another factor is the rise of the selfie, often silly self-portraits taken at arm’s length with a mobile. Almost half of the photos on Instagram feeds among people aged 14 to 21 in the UK are selfies, according to mobileYouth. Sending those photos via a mobile messaging service is safer than broadcasting them on Facebook, since they’re less likely to be seen by a boss or dozens of Facebook friends you forgot you had. Selfies are even bigger on Snapchat, the evanescent photo sharing app that deletes a photo several seconds after it has been viewed. With about 5 million active monthly users, the service has inevitably become a favoured way for teens to send sexy or even naked photos of themselves, an ill-advised practice known as “sexting”. But teens also love Snapchat because it allows them to send inane photos of themselves without fear of leaving a permanent digital footprint. The California-based app is seen as so hot, with so much potential for growth, that it has already been pegged with a $2-$4bn valuation in the Silicon Valley tech community. Estimates are even higher for WhatsApp, which makes money through an annual subscription; some observers suggest it could be worth $5bn or more.

This involves tracking the volume of visits, leads, and customers to a website from the individual social channel. Google Analytics[116] is a free tool that shows the behavior and other information, such as demographics and device type used, of website visitors from social networks. This and other commercial offers can aid marketers in choosing the most effective social networks and social media marketing activities.

What you get with The Social Network is the most fascinating character study since The Conversation. The Social Network is about the creators of Facebook, specifically a young man named Mark Zuckerberg, as portrayed by Jesse Eisenberg, who’s successes only amplify his guarded insecurity and social ineptitude. Many proponents and critical champions of the film have had the gaul to herald The Social Network as my generation’s Citizen Kane. Well… I think that’s a completely accurate statement to make. Even I agree with them. It actually is my generation’s Citizen Kane. The themes and nods are all there. Hearst as Zuckerberg, right down to the sled. Refresh, refresh, refresh. The Social Network is a very touching and revealing character study about a troubled young man who will become wholly emblematic of his time and place.

Twitter can be more conversational than other platforms, but be sure to understand the difference between your retweets, replies and your DMs (direct messages). Retweets (RTs) are ways for you to share, and optionally comment on, others’ posts. Choosing “quote tweet” means you add a comment above someone’s post; just hitting “retweet” means it gets sent to your followers without any commentary from you. You should quote tweet whenever you can, so people understand why you are sharing something.

Warn: Due to their increased popularity amongst children and teenagers, some social networking sites have become a popular location for online predators. Parents should always be active with their children and aware of what they are doing while online.

Marketing research: Mobile social media applications offer data about offline consumer movements at a level of detail heretofore limited to online companies. Any firm can know the exact time at which a customer entered one of its outlets, as well as know the social media comments made during the visit.[24]

At the heart of the movie is a brilliant, Oscar-worthy performance from Jesse Eisenberg as the 19 year old Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg, the genius behind “The Facebook” (the social network), the unsympathetic anti-hero of the adventure, a borderline sociopath variously described by women characters as “an asshole” and someone “just trying so hard to be” one. Andrew Garfield is excellent as Zuckerberg’s Harvard roommate and co-founder of the site Eduardo Savarin; thanks to the wonders of CGI, Arnie Hammer manages to be terrific as both the twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss; while singer Justin Timberlake is a revelation as the Napster founder Sean Parker. This is a testosterone-charged fable with room for women only in minor support roles – ironic in that getting girls was the impetus for the Facebook project.

Email marketing – Email marketing in comparison to other forms of digital marketing is considered cheap; it is also a way to rapidly communicate a message such as their value proposition to existing or potential customers. Yet this channel of communication may be perceived by recipients to be bothersome and irritating especially to new or potential customers, therefore the success of email marketing is reliant on the language and visual appeal applied. In terms of visual appeal, there are indications that using graphics/visuals that are relevant to the message which is attempting to be sent, yet less visual graphics to be applied with initial emails are more effective in-turn creating a relatively personal feel to the email. In terms of language, the style is the main factor in determining how captivating email is. Using casual tone invokes a warmer and gentle and inviting feel to the email in comparison to a formal style. For combinations; it’s suggested that to maximize effectiveness; using no graphics/visual alongside casual language. In contrast using no visual appeal and a formal language style is seen as the least effective method.[43]

Instagram is probably the best out of all of them because you can make your account private, which allows more control on who’s seeing your posts. I suggest a private instagram and see how sensible your daughter is about it then take it from there

The app used willingly shared location information to let you know when contacts were close, but the definitions of “willingly” and “contact” were fairly loose. The app is still around, sort of, but thanks to Highlight and other location-tracking apps, we now know that we much prefer to connect to people remotely via social apps like Facebook and would rather not be found in person, especially not by surprise.

There are a number of ways brands can use digital marketing to benefit their marketing efforts. The use of digital marketing in the digital era not only allows for brands to market their products and services, but also allows for online customer support through 24/7 services to make customers feel supported and valued. The use of social media interaction allows brands to receive both positive and negative feedback from their customers as well as determining what media platforms work well for them. As such, digital marketing has become an increased advantage for brands and businesses. It is now common for consumers to post feedback online through social media sources, blogs and websites on their experience with a product or brand.[21] It has become increasingly popular for businesses to use and encourage these conversations through their social media channels to have direct contact with the customers and manage the feedback they receive appropriately.

Posting pictures on Facebook and interacting with fans may sound like fun, but that’s not always the case. When you’re running a business, it can be just one more job to do. It’s also a task with an uncertain return on the investment of your time and…

Social media marketing involves the use of social networks, consumer’s online brand-related activities (COBRA) and electronic word of mouth (eWOM)[83][84] to successfully advertise online. Social networks such as Facebook and Twitter provide advertisers with information about the likes and dislikes of their consumers.[69] This technique is crucial, as it provides the businesses with a “target audience”.[69] With social networks, information relevant to the user’s likes is available to businesses; who then advertise accordingly. Activities such as uploading a picture of your “new Converse sneakers to Facebook[83]” is an example of a COBRA.[83][84] Electronic recommendations and appraisals are a convenient manner to have a product promoted via “consumer-to-consumer interactions.[83][83] An example of eWOM would be an online hotel review;[85] the hotel company can have two possible outcomes based on their service. A good service would result in a positive review which gets the hotel free advertising via social media. However, a poor service will result in a negative consumer review which can potentially harm the company’s reputation.

Snapchat is a social networking app that thrives on instant messaging and is totally mobile-based. It’s one of the fastest growing apps out there, building its popularity on the idea of self-destructing “snaps.” You can send a photo or short video as a message (a snap) to a friend, which automatically disappears a few seconds after they’ve viewed it.

Great job with this, Kevan. I have a question for you. From research to publish, how long did you spend on it? While I don’t write copy more than 1500 words max and yours is almost 2500 words, I am sure that you have spent more time on this; but I am trying to see if I am too slow or my boss is expecting miracles.

To use social media effectively, firms should learn to allow customers and Internet users to post user-generated content (e.g., online comments, product reviews, etc.), also known as “earned media,” rather than use marketer-prepared advertising copy.[3][4][5] While often associated with companies, as of 2016, a range of not-for-profit organizations and government organizations are engaging in social media marketing.

As social media usage has become increasingly widespread, social media has to a large extent come to be subjected to commercialization by marketing companies and advertising agencies.[136] Christofer Laurell, a digital marketing researcher, suggested that the social media landscape currently consists of three types of places because of this development: consumer-dominated places, professionally dominated places and places undergoing commercialization.[137] As social media becomes commercialized, this process have been shown to create novel forms of value networks stretching between consumer and producer[138] in which a combination of personal, private and commercial contents are created.[139] The commercial development of social media has been criticized as the actions of consumers in these settings has become increasingly value-creating, for example when consumers contribute to the marketing and branding of specific products by posting positive reviews. As such, value-creating activities also increase the value of a specific product, which could, according to the marketing professors Bernad Cova and Daniele Dalli, lead to what they refer to as “double exploitation”.[140] Companies are getting consumers to create content for the companies’ websites for which the consumers are not paid.

Surveys are also a great way to gauge success—online and offline. Ask your social media followers, email list, and website visitors how you’re doing on social media. This direct approach is often very effective. Then ask your offline customers if social media had a role in their purchasing. This insight might prove invaluable when you look for areas to improve. Learn more about how to measure social media ROI for your business.

In this project, you’ll evaluate the results of a display advertising campaign and create a presentation of the results for management. Your summary will include the targeting strategy, creatives used, the results of the campaign, and recommendations on how to improve the campaign.

Social media is the most powerful tool in today’s digital world. Without social media, it is not possible for businesses to promote their brand and reach out globally. There are numbers of social media platforms on which you can promote your brand, but not all have the same value. Thank you for the awesome list of most popular social media websites. We have to focus only on such social media that are relevant to our niche.

Social media marketing (SMM) refers to techniques that target social networks and applications to spread brand awareness or promote particular products. Social media marketing campaigns usually center around:

Kevan, some of my articles take 4-6 hours from beginning research to post perfect (or something approximating perfect). I get all the research I can stand (sometimes 50-75 pages) and begin whittling it down, several times. Somewhere in all that I might find the hook.

Eisenberg plays Zuckerberg as a socially awkward computer genius who isn’t an adorable geek (like many of Eisenberg’s previous roles). He’s a huge jerk — or, as his date tells him in the first scene, a first-class “a–hole” — obsessed with status and, later, getting back at said date for rejecting him. How many multibillion dollar ideas started out as a way to show up someone who rejected the innovator? And how many business are built on the backs of broken friendships? As Saverin, British import Garfield is pitch perfect. He exudes the confidence that comes with wealthy, but unlike Zuckerberg or the Winklevoss twins, he’s not condescending. In many ways, he’s the heart of the movie, because his character is so much more likable than Zuckerberg — so much so that you want him to win his lawsuit against Facebook. The movie’s biggest scene-stealers are Timberlake — who’s all slimy and paranoid charm as Parker — and the Winklevoss brothers, who are played by Hammer so well that you’d swear it was twin actors. Each twin is patrician perfection personified, and the fact that their social networking idea is the seed that Zuckerberg turns into Facebook serves as a slap in the face to their entitlement. What’s true and what isn’t doesn’t quite matter for the purposes of this film; in the end Facebook’s “status” is bigger than all its players.

Small businesses also use social networking sites as a promotional technique. Businesses can follow individuals social networking site uses in the local area and advertise specials and deals. These can be exclusive and in the form of “get a free drink with a copy of this tweet”. This type of message encourages other locals to follow the business on the sites in order to obtain the promotional deal. In the process, the business is getting seen and promoting itself (brand visibility).

Information updating, saving or posting: If a site or an app allows you to post absolutely anything, with or without a user account, then it’s social! It could be a simple text-based message, a photo upload, a YouTube video, a link to an article or anything else.

To summarize, Pull digital marketing is characterized by consumers actively seeking marketing content while Push digital marketing occurs when marketers send messages without that content being actively sought by the recipients.

18. vk.com. Promoting itself as Europe’s largest social media site, vk.com is essentially the Russian version of Facebook, with the same kinds of profiles, messaging, and games you would expect. Like Facebook, vk.com allows users to enter both personal and professional information about themselves, and to follow or show support for organizations and businesses.

Publishers are worried that the sites could become public troves of illegally uploaded content. In late 2013, Elsevier sent 3,000 notices to Academia.edu and other sites under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), demanding that they take down papers for which the publisher owned copyright. Academia.edu passed each notice on to its users — a decision that triggered a public outcry. One researcher who received a take-down request did not want to be named, but told Nature: “I hardly know any scientists who don’t violate copyright laws. We just fly below the radar and hope that the publishers don’t notice.”

So, is Vero truly a threat to the mighty Instagram and Facebook? It’s too soon to tell, but social media apps can definitely come in and out of fashion, as Kylie Jenner pointed out earlier this week. And if you are tempted to give Vero a go, it’s probably worth downloading the app ASAP, before those free subscriptions run out.

That is a somewhat approach compared to most other messaging platforms, yet WhatsApp is still quietly broadening out. In the same way Facebook first rolled our Facebook Connect in 2008 to allow people to use their profiles to like or comment on other websites, WhatsApp recently unveiled an instruction set known as an API that lets other mobile apps share content through WhatsApp too. The roll-out is still in its infancy, but after one music streaming service in the Middle East added the WhatsApp sharing button, its was surprised to find its users sharing 50% more songs via WhatsApp than Facebook.

Social networks dedicated to a special theme like music or movies might ask questions related to that theme. In this way, dating websites can be seen as social networking websites because they network you with other people who are looking for the same things you are.

Your definition of digital marketing as it takes into cognisance the “push and pull” while providing real time feedback on campaign effectiveness is quite true. It is quite important that as marketeers, we constantly carry out an evaluation of all activities with respect to real time impact.

Updates appear immediately. Even though you can remove tweets, your followers can still read what you wrote until it’s gone. This can get kids in trouble if they say something in the heat of the moment.

My daughter went on Omegle after seeing it used on a YouTube video – the video showed the chat was safe- a tween talking to two young kids. My daughter’s experience was much worse. Despite the numerous warnings on the initial page -she went right in and started to find people to chat with. She smartly had her camera off -but found no one would chat with her. So she turned it on – showing only below her neck. Sure enough – someone started chatting to her. He (using typing only) asked her to stand up and turn around – she did that – and he promptly threatened her -” I have taken a photo of your butt (she was fully clothed) and your face (not sure if that was possible) and I will put them onto social media and will embarrass you if you don’t do what I say…” she promptly shut it down and came down in tears. We alerted the local police and reported the incident -which they fully supported. This is NOT a site for anyone but ADULTS. Despite many warnings and much education about this type of site – my daughter ignored everything for the chance of chatting and feeling that ‘she belonged and was popular’. Such a hard thing to parent around.
