Who’s your email provider?

Update your passwordIt’s Tipsy Tuesday! and… here’s your tip for today. What email system to you use? Yahoo, Hotmail, MSN, Google, some other? Well, I have tried all of those. But, I like Google’s Gmail the best. Why? You’d think my top reason would be less spamming, but it isn’t. It’s their security features. Gmail has several important security features that allow you to customize the computers and devices you use when logging in to read your email.

You add your cell phone number to your Gmail. When you log in from an unfamiliar computer or device, Gmail will send you a text message with a confirmation code. You will need to enter that confirmation code to go beyond entering you password. You will need to identify that computer and let the system know if it should save that ID for 30 days or not (in case you are on a public computer).

What this does is say someone has access to your email (hackers, spouse, friend, etc.) and they are able to use your password. You will know someone is trying to access your email when Gmail sends the text message to your cell phone. At this point, if you know it is not you – you can go into your Gmail and change your password.

If you haven’t tried Gmail, give it a try. Google has lots of useful tools and features that I am sure you find helpful in your every day living.
